SGPC website hacked; online services are affected

The SGPC, which manages the historic gurdwaras, said its staff were working hard to get the website up and running in a day or two.

Amritsar The official website of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has been hacked and has not been functional for more than three days from Monday. As a result, services such as online donation, Serai room reservation and streaming of “Live Kirtan” from the Golden Temple have been discontinued.

Engineers from the SGPC, the body that manages the affairs of the historic gurdwaras in the northern region, including the Golden Temple and heads many institutes, have worked to resolve the issue, but to date without success.

A few months ago, a Jalandhar-based website design company brought the portal online after a redesign. When the SGPC noticed the attack, the website was disabled to prevent further loss. SGPC spokesperson Kulwinder Singh Ramdas said, “Our technical experts are working to resolve the issue. It will be restored in a day or two. We regret the inconvenience caused to the faithful.

Since the new website went live, its presentation has come under criticism. The main complaint from users was that the website prior to the hacked one provided much more comprehensive information and data on Sikhism.
