Buy smoothly, online payment to farmers is fast, says minister: The Tribune India

Punjab Minister of Food, Civil Supply and Consumption, Lal Chand Kataruchak visited Nawanshahr today and said Punjab mandis witnessed a total arrival of 84 paddy LMT, of which 82 LMT had been purchased so far.

During his visit to review mandi supply operations in Nawanshahar and Banga, he said farmers had not encountered any problems during the current supply season. Even during the festivities, no one had to stay in the mandis to sell their harvest because all the produce was purchased within four hours of arriving at the mandis.

The Minister of Food said that Rs 10,000 crore had been transferred to farmers’ accounts and 63 paddy LMT had been withdrawn from mandis.

He said he personally visited state mandis to make sure it was smooth at ground level. “Procurement agencies were instructed from day one to buy the crop without causing any problem to the farmers,” he said.

The minister was also briefed on the arrival and purchase in Nawanshahr mandis by Deputy Commissioner C Navjot Pal Singh Randhawa. He said a total of 1,92,554 MT of paddy had been purchased against the target of 3,81,000 MT, of which 1,49,820 MT had been raised. —TNS
